Plastic Basin Injection Mold

1x1 (Single-Cavity) Mold for Household Plastic Baskets & Colanders | PP / PE / HDPE | Dense Perforation Core | DME Standard

1x1 (Single-Cavity) Injection Mold for household plastic baskets — Designed to produce vegetable washing baskets, fruit colanders or storage baskets. The mold features a large, deep, bowl-shaped core covered in a dense pattern of fine pins to create the drainage holes in the final product.

Built on an LKM (Standard) or Custom Heavy-Duty mold base with 718H or NAK80 polished, food-grade steel, it is engineered for PP, PE, or HDPE and rated for 500,000+ shots, delivering long mold life on a large, thin-walled household part.

The dense perforated core, conformal / baffled cooling, high-gloss polished cavity and stripper / air-assisted ejection combine to produce uniform holes, a smooth outer surface and clean demolding — ensuring a high-quality, food-safe basket every cycle.

Core Characteristics

Dense Perforation Pattern

The core features hundreds of tiny, precisely machined pins that form the drainage holes. This requires exceptional micro-machining precision.

High-Gloss Finish

The cavity is polished to a high gloss to ensure the outer surface of the basket is smooth and aesthetically pleasing.

Robust Construction

Built with standard LKM guide pins and a thick mold base to withstand the high injection pressures required for a large, thin-walled part.

Excellent Value

Priced at $8,800, this mold offers a cost-effective solution for producing a high-demand household item with a fast return on investment.

Processing Difficulties & Countermeasures

1. Micro-Machining of the Perforated Core

DifficultyThe core has hundreds of tiny, closely spaced pins that form the drainage holes. Machining these pins with uniform height, diameter, and spacing is extremely challenging; any deviation causes uneven hole sizes or weak spots.

CountermeasureWe use high-precision CNC machining with micro-tooling to create the pin pattern, plus EDM for fine finishing. Strict CMM inspection ensures every pin meets exact dimensional tolerances.

2. Uniform Cooling of Deep, Thin-Walled Part

DifficultyThe deep, bowl-shaped basket has a large surface area and thin walls. Uneven cooling can cause warpage, while the dense pin pattern makes it difficult to place cooling channels close to the surface.

CountermeasureWe design conformal cooling channels or baffled cooling systems that follow the basket curvature, use Mold Flow Analysis (MFA) to simulate cooling for uniform temperature, and run high-efficiency chillers.

3. Demolding of Flexible, Perforated Basket

DifficultyThe basket is flexible with many holes; standard ejector pins can punch through thin walls or tear the mesh, and the deep core creates a vacuum that resists demolding.

CountermeasureWe use a large stripper plate or air-assisted ejection to push the basket off evenly, plus air poppet valves to break the vacuum for smooth release without deformation.

4. Gate Vestige & Bottom Quality

DifficultyThe gate sits at the bottom of the basket; a poor gate design can leave a visible vestige or cause flow marks affecting appearance or function.

CountermeasureWe use a pinpoint gate or hot runner valve gate at the bottom center, optimize gate size to minimize vestige, and polish the bottom surface to match the required finish.

5. Material Selection for Food Contact

DifficultyBaskets used for food must comply with strict hygiene and safety standards; the mold material must not corrode or release harmful substances.

CountermeasureWe use food-grade, corrosion-resistant steel (S136 or NAK80) for all plastic-contact surfaces, provide FDA-compliant certification, and thoroughly clean the mold before delivery.

6. Warpage & Dimensional Stability

DifficultyPP and HDPE have high shrinkage rates, and the large, open basket is prone to warping that affects roundness and stackability.

CountermeasureWe optimize holding pressure and cooling time during sampling, design adjustable cooling zones to fine-tune temperature distribution, and run CMM dimensional inspection to meet tight tolerances.

Our Workflow

A transparent, step-by-step process from design to delivery.

Stage 1: R&D Support & DFM Analysis

We support customer R&D for household plastic baskets. We create or improve 3D files (UG, SolidWorks, ProE, AutoCAD, etc.). Crucially, we provide a Mold Flow Analysis (MFA) report to optimize the perforation pattern, gate location, and cooling layout.

Stage 2: Mold Process & Perforation Integration

Mold design (DFM report) → check/approve → approved → make mold → integrate perforation pins → produce sample → sample confirmed → check final mold quality, ready to export.
We specifically validate the accuracy of the perforation pins and the cooling efficiency during this stage.

Stage 3: Sample Modification & Warpage Optimization

If the first sample doesn't meet the customer's needs (e.g., warpage or uneven holes), we can modify the mold. We fine-tune the cooling circuits and injection parameters to meet your exact requirements.

Stage 4: Sample Delivery

Produce the customer's requested quantity (typically 500-1000 shots for validation), with free shipping.

Stage 5: Final Delivery

Deliver goods by sea or air; we can accommodate special requirements (like food-grade packaging or custom crating) based on customer needs.
