Custom PEI Parts
PEI (polyetherimide) is a high-performance engineering plastic with excellent heat resistance, high strength, and good electrical insulation. It's widely used in automotive, electronics, aerospace, and medical applications. When we are injection molding these parts, we really need to be highly concern the process parameters.
Here are the three key things that we think is very important after we manufactured them many years:
1.
Thorough drying – PEI is highly hygroscopic, so before molding, we need to dry it at 150°C for at least 4 hours to get moisture content below 0.02%. If we skip this or cut corners, we're almost get the silver streaks or bubbles.
2.
Precise temperature control – melt temperature should be in the 340–415°C range, and mold temperature should be kept around 140°C. Since PEI has a pretty narrow processing window, even slight fluctuations in parameters can cause internal stress cracking, so we really need tight, reliable control throughout the process.
3.
High-speed injection – it's best to use a relatively high injection speed (700–1500 bar) to make sure the melt fills the cavity completely and thoroughly, which helps minimize defects.
